I forgot to mention - there is no log created either. I waited for a
few minutes at least.
Thanks,

I have been trying to get KDE up and running just for fun, and have
been able to build it from source and install using fink (install
bundle-kde-ssl). This seems to go fine, but when I include the
appropriate lines in the .xinitrc file, nothing seems to happen.
source /sw/bin/init.sh
/sw/bin/startkde >/sw/var/log/kde.log 2>&1
It just sits there with the X cursor, X11 doesn't quit. If I add
lines to create windows they have no handles, etc. since there is no
window manager. I have been able to use one of these windows to
verify the installation by manually executing the "startkde" script.
This works - although it usually crashed eventually :) . I can't
understand why this would work in a shell but not in the .xinitrc
file.
Any ideas would be appreciated...
Since it's making a log, do you get any output to the log?
Also, if this is 3.0.7, be prepared to wait, it takes quite some time
to start.
