Have you tried using the "open-x11" script? That's the easiest way of
executing local X11 applications from the command line, especially from
Terminal or any other Quartz term (iTerm, etc.).
Also, what would a .xinitrc look like? I don't have one in my home dir
and want to set up one so I can customize my xterm sessions.
.xinitrc is a shell script that is run when the X server starts up. It
doesn't customize xterm directly, although you can set it up to launch
a customized xterm when your X server starts up.
If you want to set the defaults for _all_ xterm sessions, then you need
to make an .Xdefaults file. Check the list archives, and the xterm man
page, for more information about that.
You'll need to know how to make a shell script in order to make an
.xinitrc file.
