X11 for dummies...

My situation is this, I want to run Open Office (openoffice.org) on a Mac running Panther OS10.3. The application requires X11 to be installed and running on my system At this apple page
http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1232.html
it states in this question...
Q: Does X11 work with a previously installed version of XDarwin?
A: We recommend you back up and move aside your previous installation of XDarwin and then install X11 for Mac OS X. A few people have been able to get X11 for Mac OS X and XDarwin to coexist.
So I'm a bit confused. Is XDarwin in-fact the Terminal 1.4.1? If so should I disable or remove this so I can run X11? By removing the Terminal will I be sacrificing anything and using X11? I need help getting this X11 application to open up with Open Office on my Mac. I've installed the Open Office application already on the Mac.
Also when I open X11 it open up in a full screen version and I do know how to adjust that to a smaller screen can anyone help with that?
Can anyone help?
