This functionality was never broken. There is a patch to xauth which
is related to the xauth message but that doesn't stop X11 tunneling
with ssh. If you're having problems, please check the list FAQ:

x11-users,
I saw in the archives that there was once a thread about the change
to ssh to properly tunnel X with the new X server. Is this patch
available somewhere? I could not find it online in any obvious
place. I'd like to patch the gsi enabled version of ssh so that I
might both tunnel my X connection (which I need to be able to do for
certain things which break without it) and forward my gsi proxy (a
different set of things break without that).
Sorry if this has already been answered on a previous thread.
Cheers
Leo
