Jeremy
I do not see why this would be the case. In the final outcome, I do not see much difference beween the standard method of using xinitrc to control X11 behaviour and the new method of setting the the launch application via
org.x.X11.plist.
Granted, if the system-wide xinitrc contains xterm then xterm will be launched at the start of X11 (just like it was in Tiger). However, if I dont like it, I can create a private .xinitrc in my home directory and delete the xterm launch from it. This is the standard way customize the X11 system behaviour.
The new X11.app by default launches new xterm every time I issue command "open -a X11". To override this, I need to edit org.x.X11.plist and substitute xterm with something like /usr/bin/true. The outcome is the same as above except it is highly none standard. Why would Apple prefer such a non-standard hack?
I am sorry for taking up your time. On the other hand, this new X11.app has taken up a lot of my time. Finally I got it right by setting up my preference in
org.x.X11_launcher.plist only to have it broken again when the launch application preference moved to org.x.X11.plist. To me it would seem much easier if the control stayed within xinitrc.
Anyway, this is a relatively minor issue. Without your valiant effort the X11 on Leopard would be completely unusable. Thanks!!!
Cheers -John

No. Because then people would get 'xterm' starting up whenever they
run OpenOffice or any other X application.
