do you mean the bug was in Tiger or is it in Leopard?
I am satisfied with my solution so it is not a real problem for me. You mentioned that many of the current changes in X11 are driven by people wanting to launch applications like Gimp from bundles. They will probably face the same problem if they place the bundle's icon in the Finder toolbar and launch it that way. In that case, I suppose, the bundled application will start under the Finder window.
