Well, Alt is sometimes used in shortcuts. For example, the X11
Firefox uses Alt+<letter> to open a menu. If you open the X11
Firefox (on a remote machine, for example), typing "Alt-f" does not
give you the File menu if Mode_switch is activated.
Other applications which use Alt for shortcuts will similarly be
affected.
This includes rdesktop, which I use throughout the day. I'm not sure I
want to say that I deserve precedence over international users though,
that sounds too Americentric to me.
