Did you replace /Applications/Utilities/X11.app with the one from Tiger?

does "launchctl list | grep X11" give any output?

yes, I did - the old x11.app was deleted before I ran the tiger installer.


No, nothing shows up in the launchctl list | grep X11. I was scouring the console and system logs to see if it was some launchd thing but ... doesn't seem to be near as I can tell.
