After installing Leopard, I noticed the following 3 directories in /usr:

lrwxr-xr-x    1 root   wheel      3 Oct 26 22:44 X11R6 -> X11
drwxr-xr-x    4 root   wheel    136 Oct 26 22:44 X11R6 1

The last one has just a lib and man subdirectories in it, the former with various font caches in it, the latter to do with xfig etc.

I think the "X11R6 1" directory contains leftovers from your previous "X11R6" directory, namely those subdirectories and files that the installer of the new X11 was unable to remove, either because they were not in the list of installed files or because of general lack of intelligence.

I can't be sure it wasnt already there under tiger.

No

Anyone else seen this?

Almost everybody, I would guess.

Should I merge these files back into X11?

No.
