...I just tried switching off syntax coloring, which indeed seems to
speed up file saving...but it also has an unfortunate side-effect:
it turns off the "symbol view" drop-down menu...this doesn't seem to
me to be something that should be affected by "syntax coloring":
what's the thought behind it, and should I file a bug?
