We have a problem where if our application crashes due to a null

This only happens with deployment builds - development builds work
fine. Any attempt to attach with gdb or get a stack trace with
Sampler/Shark/Spin Control etc. fails - requiring a reboot if we
try attaching with gdb as gdb hangs as well and there's no way to
get rid of the application windows..
Has anyone else seen this, or know how to stop it happening? - our
beta-testers can't report produce crash reports when they get a
problem making it hard to track down bugs.
Replying to my own message....
Some more information: If I do a "ps" while my app is hung, there's a
zombie (crashdump) process which is a child of my app. Presumably,
this is a zombie because my crashed app has not checked its error
status. I'm hoping this might ring some bells with someone...
