The unit tests actually get run in the Run Script phase of the build. If you want to see what XCode is doing double click on that Run Script subheading and it'll show you the command it's running.


Of course, any Mac guy would know it makes no sense to have a list item that has a disclose triangle when it's not meant to have anything inside it (as far as I can see). But the developers of XCode seem to have a (dis)logic of their own.
