This morning, I went into the project's package (evil, I know) and I deleted my user.mode1 and user.pbxuser files. When I subsequently opened the project, I was confused to see the build configuration popup completely blank. Upon building my project, I found that it had placed it's output in the "Development" directory.
When we migrated from XCode 2.0 to XCode 2.1, we renamed our build configurations "Debug" and "Release" and got rid of the Deployment/Development build styles (Thanks for renaming those, BTW). Because they don't exist any more, the creation of the Deployment build caught me by surprise.
Is this some residual behavior from XCode 2.0? Could it be the cause of some project dependency issues we've been seeing?
This is a bug in 2.1 caused by two things: 1) we don't completely expunge all remnants of build styles from your project file, and 2) changing configuration names in the project file doesn't update all user files in the project bundle.
So if you move an updated project to a user who last touched it in its pre-updated form, their "last active build setting" will be honored.
The workaround is to set the active build configuration when you open an upgraded project.
