In Xcode 2.1, you may setup commands associated to a breakpoint from the breakpoint window.

Is there any way to get XCode to use fb to set future breaks by default? With my debugging, it typically doesn't know the source file until a bit later. I tried adding a "file" command to the .gdbInit, but that just resulted in gdb crashing instead, sigh.

Xcode always sends the breakpoints you enter in the Breakpoints window as "future break". If you have a case where this is not happening, please file a bug about it.

gdb shouldn't crash, but I don't think putting a "file" command in the .gdbinit is going to do what you want. After all, Xcode is going to issue it's own file command and override whatever you did almost immediately. Certainly before any breakpoints get set.
