I'm confused as to the exact difference between Build Styles and Build Configurations, even after reading Xcode 2.1 User Guide > The Build System > Build Configurations > Upgrading from Previous Versions of Xcode.
Now if I get info on the Project, I can edit Build Configuration settings. If I go into the Target, I can see these settings come through on the Build settings for the target. How is this different from the old Xcode 2.0 and earlier Build Styles? Is it the different order in which Build Configuration is applied and then Target build settings??
In 2.0 and earlier, build styles overrode target settings. So if you set Zero Link in your Development build style, you couldn't turn it off on a target-by-target basis, and it would appear in strikeout type in the target inspector. Very confusing.
In 2.1, target settings inherit from project settings for a given configuration. So you can set Zero Link in your Project's Debug build configuration, and all targets will inherit that; but if you want your shared library target to not use ZeroLink, just open its Target inspector, look at the Debug configuration, and uncheck Zero Link. Very clear.
