multiple executables, one application

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to create an application that has several different
executables involved--one for the application UI itself, and then
several auxiliary utility executables. Unfortunately, I can't seem
to coerce Xcode to assemble this all properly for me. The
application target won't accept a drop of the target or the
executable from Xcode in any way besides setting up the basic target
build dependence. I tried adding a copy files build phase, but it
likewise doesn't accept any of the placeholders from Xcode and if I
add an actual built executable from the Finder, that hardwires it to
the absolute path without any option to make it relative to the build
products directory (the options are grayed out in the get info pane).
Surely this has been done before (and probably on a regular basis),
but I didn't find any mention of this kind of thing in the archives.
Any tips?
Thanks,
br
