Hi Josh: It seems that nobody else has reported this problem. I've filed a bug, which will help Apple, but can anyone suggest any preventative medicine for me?
A good idea would probably be to make a copy of your current "good" preferences file someplace else. Wait for the preferences to go bad again, and then do a diff between the two to find out what has changed. Add this information to your bug report to Apple, and then copy back in your "good" preferences file.
Once you've sent in the diff, you might want to flag your preferences file as read-only (ie: remove the write attribute) so it can't be changed again (which, of course, is only viable if you're not going to be changing any of the settings it contains).
