Creating File and Project Templates

I've been searching for docs on creating XCode project and/or file templates. Also for how to add language specifications to tell XCode how to syntax color other languages.

This question was asked about on this list a year or so ago with the answer that such things would be documented "in the future". Is anyone aware of progress in this area?
