I just have to vent because of some stupid bug in Xcode.
I've been working on something for 2 days. Because of the bug in
Xcode that prevents changes from being written to the .pbxuser file
when the .pbxproj file is not checked out (and that's not the bug I'm
talking about above, but a bug that *really needs to be fixed* for
the next release), I had to check out the project before quitting so
the .pbxuser file would remember which windows I had open. I had to
quit because Xcode was taking upwards of 10 seconds to step over a
single line of code, a very common bug in Xcode (still not the bug
I'm talking about).
When I reloaded my project, I knew made sure there were no changes to
the .pbxproj file by doing a p4 diff, then selected the project name
at the top of the list in the project window and hit SCM->Revert. I
thought it was taking a while, since reverting an unchanged project
doesn't need to actually get the file from the server. I also thought
I saw one of my source files change.
When it finally got done churning the SCM busy control in the project
window, I went back to work, only to find that Xcode decided to
revert ALL THE #$%^ING FILES THAT I HAD CHECKED OUT, NOT JUST TYE
PROJECT FILE!!!! THAT's the bug I'm talking about. You can see why
I'm pissed. Really pissed. I've never seen this bug before. I'm way
too angry to submit a bug right now. So if any of you Xcode engineers
are reading this, please submit it for me and all the other Xcode
users that could potentially run into this bug and lose days or weeks
of work. It's not fun. Far from fun. It ruined my whole day.
One of the files it reverted was my todo list, which I've probably
had checked out for a couple months, so who knows what changes I'd
made to it since then, and what bugs won't get looked at because
they're no longer on my todo list.
I really wish I had a PC and a baseball bat right about now. I sure
as hell wouldn't smash up a Mac, because they're supposed to be perfect.
