Dear Bill, Samuel, or any other vacationers:
Before going on vacation, you should temporarily disable the delivery of
your mailing-list subscriptions. Otherwise when you return from vacation,
you'll have a large number of annoyed people and a lengthy record of your
mailbot's indiscretions permanently stored in the list archives.
To disable mailing-list deliveries without unsubscribing, go to your
list-preferences web page:
You will be asked to enter your list-preferences password, then you'll be
taken to the settings page. Follow other instructions, such as enabling
cookies, at least for the duration of the following.
On the settings page, scroll down to the Options table.
The first option is "Mail delivery". Before going on vacation, you should
choose "Disabled", and check "Globally" so it applies to all your
subscriptions to other Apple lists, such as Bill's carbon-dev subscription,
or Samuel's coreaudio-api one.
Next, click the "Submit my changes" button at the bottom of the page.
FInally, read the resulting page to confirm that Mail delivery is indeed
disabled globally.
If this procedure is too difficult, your list-preferences login page also
has a single "Unsubscribe" button. Click that, then reply to the
confirmation email you receive. You can resubscribe when you return.
Trust me, it'll be a lot nicer for everyone.
