Stupid config error. I have Leopard on one partition, Tiger on another, and my home on a third. I had put aliases to the Leopard Xcode2.5/IB2.5s on my desktop, and while running Tiger had launched those two instead of the two on my Tiger volume.

How gdb worked for the demo app I build and tested is beyond me! However, once I started using the Tiger installed versions everything worked as expected.
