I don't know the answer to this (I don't even know what a "max/msp external" is), but you'll probably have better luck asking on a more appropriate list. This list isn't for these kinds of coding or technology questions. It's for questions relating to the use of Xcode and other Apple development tools. Look over the available lists and see which best matches what you're doing:
