SSE intrinsic _mm_srl_epi16

I'm trying to use the SSE intrinsic _mm_srl_epi16, but I get the following message for each instance of its use

{standard input}: ####: suffix or operands invalid for 'psrlw'

where #### is some number.

where the arguments passed to the intrinsic are of type __v8hi
