You mentioned Japanese fonts in your original post. You also included an
example of an STR# resource that seems to have a Japanese string (commented
as 'ja').

Reading 'man Rez' and then walking through the options in your
build-transcript command-line, -script Roman strikes me as improper, given
the apparent presence of Japanese two-byte text. Just a guess, though.
You also have a long list of "include" directories, one of which may harbor
a Rez-includable file that could be tripping up Rez. If possible, try
trimming that list down, since you said you only need the STR# defn. I'm
not sure that's achievable, though, since it looks like all those -i's are
in the build-process's Rez command (which sets up then executes
/Developer/Tools/Rez). However, you may be able to affect the long list of
-i's indirectly, by changing a build setting.
