ls -l /.fseventsd/Carbon      ==     permission denied.

Not sure what you mean by context. I have a Carbon project that Release built fine under Tiger, and not under Leopard. The Debug build continues to work. I did a Clean, then Build, and it results in compile .pch errors.

By "context" I mean "what exactly was it doing when it got the error you mentioned." Above you say "compile .pch", that helps. A bigger selection from the full build transcript might help. But it would help more to know what's being compiled into that pch (for example, Leopard system headers, SDK headers, FlatCarbon headers, etc.)?

The error looks like the journaled file system is registering file system events and finding that the private directory for noting file changes is locked to you. This is bad, and extremely unusual. From the Termilan, what happens if you execute

$ ls -l /.fseventsd/Carbon

?
