XCode 2.0 and .pbxproj files

Hi,
I'm still using XCode 2.0 on Tiger and need to open a project that
appears as a folder myproject.xcodeproj which contains the file
myproject.pbxproj. I tried to open this file with XCode 2.0 but
nothing happens. Why? Is this maybe a new format coming from newer
versions of XCode? If yes do I necessarily need to upgrade?
