autoconf changes in Leopard

When I build gcc now under leopard, I see a lot of this kind of stuff during config:

checking for CHAR_BIT... rm: conftest.dSYM: is a directory
yes


conftest.dSYM is a directory. I don't recall seeing that before.

Has something changed?
