I just did, but... isn't Archive.bom the source archive?  If not, then
what is it asking for?  Can you give me an example of how to do the
extraction from something that already is in your own /Library/Receipts
directory?

That's missing the "src_archive" parameter to ditto -x.  Reread the man
page.
