Panther uses gcc-3.3 too. If I'm not wrong, gcc-4.x has never been
backported to Panther afaik.
But one can target 10.3.9 using gcc 4 using the 10.3.9 SDK so Peter's
statement was correct.
That a big problem for some third part project not directly using
XCode, because it avoids us to maintain easely - just the example I
know - OpenOffice.org.
I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that not being able to run gcc 4
on Panther is a big problem?
I would just compile your PPC code with GCC 4, which is 10.3.9
minimum.
IMHO, the problem is, Apple never backported the changes for Panther.
I'm not seeing the problem. You don't need to be running Panther to
target Panther. Just use the 10.3.9 SDK in /Developers/SDKs and
compile on tiger using gcc 4.0.1.
