Probably /var/log/install.log will contains some cues.
You can tell you user to use the "Console" utility or to use "Go To
Folder" in Finder ot help him to find it. (if he is not familiar with
invisible folder manipulation)

I recently wanted to distribute a piece of software which runs in
the command line. I used PackageMaker to create an installer
package to place the file in /usr/bin. I tested it on my machine
and since it worked once in a row, I figured "ship it".
Okay so now a user is reporting an error on installation.
Is there an installer failure log somewheres that I can tell him to
send me?
I really did search the archives and docs for PackageMaker before
posting this. The results you get when using "installer failure
log" aren't that useful.
Thanks
