Ideally one should do both. If and when it becomes a menu command, no one else will ever have to write that script again. I don't subscribe to the notion that if a request isn't going to help me personally then there's no value in making it. Keep in mind that many people who want this will waste several minutes or more trying to determine if there's already a way to do it before writing a script, so the total time invested in practice is more than just what it takes to write the script.
