Perhaps there's something Apple can change to avoid the impression that "duplicate" means "yeah, we know, go away"? Part of the problem is that you can't access the original bug because all bugs are considered private. I wish that were optional.

As others have stated, you can email email@hidden to request information on the bug yours is marked a duplicate of. You should also see the Radar number of the bug yours is marked a duplicate of.

If you come up with any ideas for further streamlining that process, it would be useful to file a bug report against the bug reporter. :)

However, keep in mind that for security purposes "let me see the details of the original bug mine is a duplicate of" is almost guaranteed not to be fixed, despite how much further it could streamline things for third parties. Think about why: Even if the original bug didn't initially contain any details that need to be secret doesn't mean it won't ever be modified to include details that need to be secret; the originator in such a case won't have sufficient information to correctly set the "public/private" flag themselves. Thus the policy surrounding secrecy of originals is unlikely to change.

You can still request information on the original from ADC, though, and they should be able to tell you what they're allowed to tell you (or know themselves).
