I really wish Apple would put up a web page with a table of
what versions (OS, Xcode) and hardware work together.

What would be the sense of such a list if Apple deliberately restricts "allowed" hardware for no or minor technical reason(s)? To my personal observation, 10.4.x runs fine on anything back to 604- equipped PowerPCs, 10.5.x requires at least a G4 (of any speed). I've heard a rumour about Leopard on a G3 which lacks obviously some functionality.
