I'm building from source and i would like to link against a new lib inside the build->ib directory that was build previously to my current lib i'm building. And then ld barfs: ld:symbol(s) not found.

I'm stuck. Is there an answer or do I have to put my fresh libs in the /usr/lib directory?

If you're building multiple projects/targets whose products need to refer to each other, it's often easier in Xcode to set a single default build location:

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/XcodeUserGuide/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/05_07_bs_building_product/chapter_35_section_2.html#/ /apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002693-SW10

You do this for all your projects in the Xcode preferences window ("Place Build Products In"):

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/XcodeUserGuide/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/07_02_custom_prefs/chapter_49_section_4.html#/ /apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002708-SW5

Xcode will look in this default build location first for the library, and only if it doesn't find it there will it look elsewhere.

There are other ways to do it, but this is a start.
