editor windows moved off-screen

  • Subject: editor windows moved off-screen

I use the "compact" arrangement with edits in separate windows. When I have three windows, editing a new module causes one of the current windows to apparently be moved offscreen{?) without closing the file . Usually, the edit session it chooses to move out is the one I want to be looking at along with the new one. It wouldn't be so bad except that the window does not remain in the window list in the menu bar. I have to search for the project window which is usually obscured an select the file to be moved back on screen (reopened?). I do use the split view on occasion, but I can't seem to figure out how to (or whether I can) use it for other than a file and its counterpart. Is there a setting I haven't found, or is a max of three editor windows buried in the code? I should have more than enough memory to handle more than three windows.
