Here is the enclosing directory structure:

d---r-xr-x+ 6 777 marc 204 Jun 2 13:11 .
drwxr-xr-x+ 61 root marc 2074 May 22 12:19 ..
----r--r-- 1 marc marc 0 Jun 2 09:43 .DS_Store
drwxr-xr-x 8 marc marc 272 May 19 14:10 Blogger
drwxr-xr-x 11 marc marc 374 Jun 2 09:43 Random
drwxr-xr-x 9 marc marc 306 Jun 2 13:15 TestApp

This is the directory in which the project is stored (TestApp)

drwxr-xr-x 4 marc marc 136 Jun 2 13:11 English.lproj
-rw-r--r-- 1 marc marc 855 Jun 2 13:11 Info.plist
drwxr-xr-x 6 marc marc 204 Jun 2 13:15 TestApp.xcodeproj
-rw-r--r-- 1 marc marc 145 Jun 2 13:11 TestApp_Prefix.pch
drwxr-xr-x@ 4 marc marc 136 Jun 2 13:13 build
-rw-r--r-- 1 marc marc 254 Jun 2 13:11 main.m

The xib file is stored in English.lproj

here is the directory within:

-rw-r--r-- 1 marc marc 92 Jun 2 13:11 InfoPlist.strings
-rw-r--r--  1 marc  marc  129900 Jun  2 13:11 MainMenu.xib  <=====

I'm the owner of the files. I don't have fast switching enabled.
There are no other users of this machine. I'm both the sysadmin and
the machine's only user, not simultaneously.

I've seen suggestions for similar, but not identical problems to do:

chmod +R U+rwX on the nib (xib) file. Since this problem occurs with
other attempts to modify the xib files of other pixie programs, I'm
beginning to suspect a bug. Why should I have to perform some chmod
magic to edit an XCode created template. I don't recall this problem
in XCode 2.0.

Hope this helps in identifying where the problem might be.

Thanks for your questions.
