In most of Apple's applications, pressing Command + Alt + F will set
focus on the "main" search field belonging to the window (Mail, Safari
etc.). In Xcode's documentation window, it would be nice to be able to
get there by using the same shortcut, so that one does not have to tab
all over the place to get there.

According to these old release notes, such a functionality has been
there: http://developer.apple.com/releasenotes/DeveloperTools/RN-DocumentationXcode2_3/index.html

Am I missing something, or is this just not implemented in Xcode 3?

Hej Mattias,

I can't reproduce that problem, for me it seems to work as you suggest: Hitting Cmd+Alt+F moves the focus to the search field, without making changes to the selection in either the sidebar or the scope bar. Could it be that you have modified your Key Bindings in the preference panel?

Hm... I _did_ have a modified key binding hooked up to Cmd+Alt+F; I used it for "Replace and Find Next" (just like TextMate does), but that's not the case any more. According to the preference panel, Cmd +Alt+F isn't bound to any item at the moment.

Does it work if you invoke it from the menu bar: "View > Detail"?

Yes it does work if I go through the menu bar.

Removing my key bindings preference file (Mattias.pbxkeys) does resolve the problem though. Can this file be of any help to you if/ when debugging this matter?

Best regards
Mattias
