I seem to have lost a file that I worked on in Xcode for several hours.
Is there any place Xcode stores invisible draft, undo, etc. versions where I might be able to recover some of the pieces?

Xcode doesn't autosave or auto-backup individual source files, but it does support Snapshots and SCM to manually save file versions, and of course Time Machine for hourly backups. But none of those I'd turned on for you automatically.
