'remoteGlobalIDString' keeps changing in the .xcodeproj

I've got a Xcode project that references other projects. Fairly
frequently, Xcode decides to add or remove a comment from the
remoteGlobalIDString line, along these lines :
- remoteGlobalIDString =
8D5B49B6048680CD000E48DA /* BBPlugIns.plugin */;
+ remoteGlobalIDString = 8D5B49B6048680CD000E48DA;
...which is sort of a pain in the ass for version control. Does any
know what causes Xcode to add/remove the comment, or if it's possible
to prevent it from doing so?
