What you're describing - I think it does work. I generally keep my
projects open when committing and have never encountered any problems.

While I'm on the subject of versioning the project file, I've been

it is open? Can it be brought to a consistent state? Or do I always
have to close a project before adding/committing it to a revision in
Git?
The scenario is that I work my brilliance on a project, possibly
adding files. It works, and I want to commit it to the repository.
Leaving the project open, I issue "git commit -a". Does the .pbxproj
file necessarily include the new files?
(Google of "git pbxproj consistency" turned up nothing interesting
in the first few pages.)
