Xcode's Display Name in the Dock

  • Subject: Xcode's Display Name in the Dock

I apologize for asking something slightly off topic since it is a problem with the Dock rather than with Xcode:

I have two versions of Xcode installed on my system placed both into the Dock. In order to better distinguish between different installed versions of Xcode and related tools I would like the Dock to display the names (labels that appear when hovering over the icon) differently. (Well, it would be also nice, if we had different Icons, say one that shows the version).

It seems, for applications the standard behavior of the Dock is to display the file name of the bundle (minus .app extension), rather the string CFBundleName defined in Info.plist or the corresponding localized version of CFBundleName in the Bundle Resource folder. The application bundle file names do not distinguish from different SDK versions, though.

I'm a bit reluctant to edit the preference plist file for the dock nor would I like to edit the application bundle name.

Do you have any good ideas how this can be accomplished?

Thanks in advance for some cool tips ;)

Andreas
