How about setting GCC_VERSION = 4.0 in one .xcconfig file that you then use as the basis of all your projects?

We don't use .xcconfig files because we use Qt ( http://qt.nokia.com/ ) to build out Xcode projects.  Because of that we regenerate our Xcode projects (via qmake) very often and I don't want to have to select an .xcconfig file every time we rebuild the Xcode project.
