Getting list of apps and visible windows

I guess this is sort of a newbie question, but is there any documentation or
sample code for getting the list of applications and windows in them? Once I
have that info, I'll be able to use the Acc. API to get the controls and
such.
(Sorry if this came twice. The first time I sent it, I wasn't subscribed
