Determining Java version used by other apps

There was a problem in using any of the Accessibility APIs to inspect Java 1.4.1 applications (rdar:\3459815) which would cause them to crash/hang. This seems to have been fixed in Java 1.4.2.

How can my app determine the version of Java in use by such apps so that I can allow my app to work correctly with Java 1.4.2 apps?
