Recognizing read-only AXTextAreas
Recognizing read-only AXTextAreas

I noticed that, for example, iChat uses an AXTextArea for the chat
transcript (the balloons), which obviously is not for typing into,
but only for reading and selecting. Other AXTextAreas, such as the
TextEdit document typing area, allow reading, writing and selecting.
Is there a way to distinguish between these different kinds of uses
(on 10.3.x and 10.4.x), namely AXTextAreas that are not intended for
typing into and those that are? I need this info for offering better
accessibility.
Thanks,
david.
