Hi,
Does anybody know whether some popular commercial word
processors such as Ms Word X and Pages of iWork are FULLY access-enabled on
Maciontosh? Description of my question is as follow:
I am going to develop an assistive application that works tightly
with Ms Word X. One basic function of this app is extracting texts from and
injecting texts back into the rich-text area of Ms Word. The first idea comes
to me is using Accessibility APIs. But I found that both Accessibility
Inspector and UI Broswer are failed in finding the correct UI Element which holds
rich-text in its body, and has useful attributes such as AXValue, AXSelectedText
and AXSelectedTextRange. I was also frustrated in test with Pages of iWork.
To confirm my guess, I also tried to use the system built-in
screen-reader (VoiceOver). Unfortunately, it could not read the texts shown in
Ms Word’s edit area. The same as Pages of iWork.
Now I am wondering if it is possible to access texts in these
commercial word processors from cocoa/carbon code?
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated, thanks.
