I'll keep hacking away to make sure it isn't some stupid bug on my

some circumstance under which I could receive these notifications,
if nothing else. ;-)
So, Finder does its own split-view handling, and Xcode, iChat, and
Sketch probably use built-in AppKit handling, but might not.
I suspect to really answer your question, we'd need some sample code
from you that uses the AX API in the way you are, and attaches to
these particular apps. Then we can see what behaviors the kits are
providing. i.e., please file a bug...
