I would not like to see this happen. Spelling out "A-D" as "ay to

I believe that if the phonetic representation "ay to dee" reading
corresponds to "A to D" and it does, then it should work even with
non-Apple voices as long as the voice is english.
and as long as the voice works with the phonetic descriptions :-)
It would also cause issues when an item is displayed rather than
spoken (I mean it would look rather weird to see "ay to dee"
instead of "A to D".
When this gets displayed, it looks rather weird and that's why there
was a suggestion for a phonetic description.
understood.
Finally, it would cause problems when reading it as text in a
foreign language voice, where as "A-D" or even "A to D" would
probably sound more understandable as the "A" and "D" could be
pronounced correctly for that language and "ay" and "dee" would
probably not sound the way you would want.
Isn't that why we can supply descriptions dynamically?
Yes, you can, but it is not a guarantee that you would ;-)
I trust you are trying to do the right thing, I was just signalling
these things as potential issues.
