Now I have a second reply: Yep this is now causing lots of bugs in my client's app. I'm calling it the "disappearing buttons" bug because that's exactly what's happening :(
So what should we tell clients to do to fix this? Change the colors of their buttons? Has this been noted or updated in the iOS Human Interface Design Guidelines documentation yet?
Any help is much appreciated!
