Hi Daniel,

I am not aware of any API. Only (unofficial) way I can think of is:

# without VoiceOver running

$ ps aux | grep scrod

username 63456 0.0 0.0 2432772 640 s002 S+ 2:00PM 0:00.00 grep scrod

# with VoiceOver running

$ ps aux | grep scrod

username 63461 0.0 0.0 2458372 672 s002 S+ 2:00PM 0:00.00 grep scrod
username 63459 0.0 0.1 2499024 7452 ?? S 2:00PM 0:00.18 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ScreenReader.framework/Frameworks/ScreenReaderOutput.framework/Resources/scrod

Sure if someone else has other tips, I would be glad to learn them :-)

I'm wondering whether there's a proper way to programmatically detect whether VoiceOver is running on OSX?

On iOS apparently there's UIAccessibilityIsVoiceOverRunning , but all I've managed to find in terms of a similar function on OSX are various hacks ranging in age.

I'm retrofitting a game engine, so we're basically just pushing text out to OSX at appropriate points. We're looking to use this to either enable or disable our own VoiceOver support on opening the game.
